Betania island is located south of Morondava. This area leads west to the ocean coast and the mozambique channel , and in three other directions to the Morondava River, and to reach it you have to rely on traditional canoes with the hollow trunk of a tree. Houses in Betania island are wooden and their traditional cottage is made by a mixture of mud, wood and dry leaves of palm called Satrana.
