In Betania Island routine life is not too complicated and it is similar to the other coastal villages in western coast of Madagascar. Fishing and making canoes, Sakalava pirogue are the main profession of them. For the Vezo the sea is sacred. They believe in an almighty god of the sea, who controls the climate and nature. The Vezo are skilled fishermen and excellent boatmen.
