Most of Lakas has an outrigger; pole that is installed parallel to the main axis of the boat to maintain the balance of the boat in rough waters, especially during fishing and, the other one inspired fromeast of east Africa, don’t use outrigger. Like Lakanas, Sakalava pirogues have different types, the one’s which use outriggers are so common and applied in Indian ocean and east of Africa.
