One of the common professions in Betania island and west coast line of Madagascar is building canoe, different kinds of pirogues such as Sakalava pirogue and Lakana. Lakana or laka , are traditional canoes of Madagascar used for transferring people or cargos and also fishing at the rivers. Most of the canoes are of the empty trunks are trees in different sizes in singular or double form. Some of the Lakas used a sail named crab claw which is common between south west of Asia.
